Woodland Dirt track race in Kochi

Sports cars and bikes dashing on the dirt track set on the Panangad Synthite Ground gave racing enthusiasts a new high this weekend.

"Woodlands - Dirt Track Race 2012," organised by the Sign Events in association with the Cochin Racing Club (CRC) on 25th February 2012. Managing Director Woodland, Mr. Harkirat Singh   flaged-off the race.
Though CRC has been holding a bike race since 2000 in Fort Kochi, it is for the first time that cars were  made part of the race.

It was a 2.2-km closed track event and consisted of high speed sections as well as a series of bends and turns so that driver and vehicle are tested to the hilt. "

The event has the recognition of the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India, National Sports Federation, Federation Internationale de Automobile, Paris Federation, Federation Internationale de Motoycisme, Geneva, and the Indian Olympic Association.

The four-wheelers  raced on the first day and two-wheelers the next day. Competition was  held in five classes for cars and six classes for bikes.

Yoga Tips: What To Do Before You Get on The Mat

So we all know that yoga is a great way to clear your mind and tone your body, but do we know the basics? Before you jump on the mat, there are important basics we'd like to map-out.

HYDRATION: Especially if you are going to be taking a hot class, staying hydrated is essential for preventing dizziness and feeling faint during balancing and strengthening postures.

FOOD: Many studios recommend you don't consume food two hours before taking a yoga class. For quick flow classes, your stomach can get upset easily when full. However, if you are hungry before a class, we recommend a light snack or drink.

PROPS: Straps, bolsters, blankets, blocks, and more can be used in classes to assist or deepen a posture. Most studios will supply these, but you are usually welcome to bring you own.

ATMOSPHERE: Yoga studios are a place to be in peace, cell-phones should be turned off and you should arrive early to prevent hassles.

BREATH: Many instructors will remind you, but DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE. Many of us hold our breaths during postures without realizing, which can throw you off balance and cause tension.

CLOTHING: Yoga has a lot of 'upside-down, right-side-up' postures. We recommend wearing comfortable but tight fitting 'stretchy' clothing to help you move without losing your shirt!

That said, don't forget to RELAX and ENJOY the benefits of your practice!!

Make your life a bit healthier by getting inspired by nature's elements: Air

1. Aerobics Boosts Oxygen

The trick here, is to get your heart rate up. Even a daily, fast paced 30 minute walk can make a big difference. The word Aerobic actually means, 'with air' or 'with oxygen.' Cells deprived of oxygen decay, mutate or die, so regularly getting your blood pumping is necessary. So this weekend, go for a hike or a couple quick walks around the block and you'll be on your way to a healthier lifestyle!

2. Oxygen Stimulates Brain Growth

While your brain may only account for 2% of your body weight, it accounts for 20% of total oxygen expenditure. Exercising regularly improves brain function and it seems, enhances the production of neurons. Forty to 60 minutes of moderate intensity exercise has been proven to improve cognitive function. The key is to make it fun! Then you're much more likely to be consistent and do it three to five times a week.
