Yoga Tips: What To Do Before You Get on The Mat

So we all know that yoga is a great way to clear your mind and tone your body, but do we know the basics? Before you jump on the mat, there are important basics we'd like to map-out.

HYDRATION: Especially if you are going to be taking a hot class, staying hydrated is essential for preventing dizziness and feeling faint during balancing and strengthening postures.

FOOD: Many studios recommend you don't consume food two hours before taking a yoga class. For quick flow classes, your stomach can get upset easily when full. However, if you are hungry before a class, we recommend a light snack or drink.

PROPS: Straps, bolsters, blankets, blocks, and more can be used in classes to assist or deepen a posture. Most studios will supply these, but you are usually welcome to bring you own.

ATMOSPHERE: Yoga studios are a place to be in peace, cell-phones should be turned off and you should arrive early to prevent hassles.

BREATH: Many instructors will remind you, but DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE. Many of us hold our breaths during postures without realizing, which can throw you off balance and cause tension.

CLOTHING: Yoga has a lot of 'upside-down, right-side-up' postures. We recommend wearing comfortable but tight fitting 'stretchy' clothing to help you move without losing your shirt!

That said, don't forget to RELAX and ENJOY the benefits of your practice!!
